Most tourists miss out on the unique perspective that these outings offer. Mountaineering or rock climbing with a qualified mountain guide gives you the peace of mind that you will be well looked after and get the most from your short and valuable time in the region.
Take a look this great movie made by Adam Malski on the Grand Traverse:
You can meet your guide at our office in Wanaka or at your accommodation in Queenstown. If you are staying around Wanaka or Queenstown then after a quick gear check you'll head off for up to the Remarkables for the day's objective. Returning back to the comforts of ground level late in the afternoon after a full and satisfying day.
The Grand Traverse of the Remarkables is one of the best alpine outings in New Zealand and especially unique in that it can be accessed in a day trip from the comforts of Queenstown through the Remarkables ski field. It require scrambling allow an exposed rocky ridge up and over the twin summits of Double Cone and Single Cone, looking down almost 2km vertically to Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu below. Suitable for anyone with some hiking experience and a good head for heights.
There are also opportunities for alpine rock climbing direct to the summit of Double Cone or Single Come and a range of difficulties.
No. Most people use shuttle bus transport or a taxi service from Queenstown Airport to Wanaka. If you stay in accommodation in central Wanaka then you will not need to rent a car. Most cafes, restaurants and activities are within easy walking distance.
Most of our mountaineering ascents are conducted on a 1:1 basis, so no problem there.
